2021 Cracking the Code: Demystify Computer Science schedule (Draft)

Curious about programming? Want to know what it is useful for? Want expert guidance from a university with the best Computer Science programs in the world? In this camp, all these questions and ambitions will be fulfilled. There will be hands-on project-based experience with computer science: learn to code and understand the why behind coding. You get to hear from people within the industry and work with University of Illinois faculty and computer science majors!

Virtual camp activities will occur through these 3 processes:

  • LIVE sessions using video conferencing or webinar tools (e.g. Zoom).
  • AYC sessions or “at your convenience” will include videos, articles, and labs that will be accessed through a password-protected website.
  • Community Chat (e.g. GroupMe, Discord, Slack) will be accessible for any-time communication between campers, counselors, and course instructors.

Camp Coordinator(s):

Elsa Gunter and Heather Zike, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Elsa is a Research Professor and the Director of Undergraduate Programs for Computer Science, and Heather is the Undergraduate Programs Coordinator & Academic Advisor. Both have run similar computer science programming camps in the past. Elsa also currently teaches several upper-level Computer Science courses and has an extensive teaching and research background.
